Dry Skin or Dehydrated Skin? How to Tell the Difference

Skin that feels tight is often described as dry. But dryness and dehydration describe two different things, and knowing which one you're feeling makes the rest of your routine much simpler.

Dry skin is a skin type, usually associated with producing less oil. Dehydrated skin is a temporary condition in which skin is short on water, and it can happen to any skin type, including oily skin. Many people experience both at once.

What Dry skin can feel like.

Dry skin may feel rough, look flaky, or simply feel more comfortable under a richer moisturizer. It tends to benefit from formulas that help reduce moisture loss. A good moisturizer usually combines three kinds of ingredients: humectants, which attract water; emollients, which soften the feel of skin; and occlusives, which help slow the loss of water from the surface.

Texture and comfort matter more than richness. The heaviest jar on the shelf isn't automatically the right one for you.

What Dehydration Can Feel Like.

Dehydrated skin can look a little dull, show fine lines more noticeably for a while, and feel tight even when there's shine on the surface. Cold weather, dry indoor air, and a cleansing routine that feels stripping can all contribute.

These are signs, not a diagnosis. Skin changes with the seasons, and it's normal to need more support in some months than others.

A Simpler Hydration Ritual

Step 1: Cleanse gently. Choose a cleanser that leaves skin comfortable rather than squeaky. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Step 2: Add a hydrating layer, if you enjoy one.** Apply it to skin that's still slightly damp.

Finish with the Peptide Ageless AM/PM Cream, a lightweight, nourishing cream with jojoba seed oil, mango seed butter, hyaluronic acid, and vitamins C and E. Warm a small amount between your fingertips and smooth it over the face and neck. It absorbs easily and leaves the complexion feeling soft and supple.

As its name suggests, it is designed for both morning and evening, so one cream carries you through the full day.

Morning and evening

Morning: Cleanse with the Radiant Glow Facial Wash, apply the Peptide Serum, smooth on the Peptide Ageless AM/PM Cream, then finish with your daily sunscreen.

Evening: Cleanse to remove the day, apply the Peptide Serum, and close with the Peptide Ageless AM/PM Cream. No extra steps, just a quiet transition into rest.
